One hardly need mention that this was inspired by the iconic Henri Rousseau painting "The Sleeping Gypsy", but for credit's sake it only feels right. As for fan-context, what we have here is Amethyst dozing in the middle of the desert, because reasons. Enter Peridot and Lion - and drawing from canon I can't think of any reason why she'd be in Lion's mane/driving Lion unescorted by Steven, but a fan has the luxury of poetic license, thank goodness! In contrast to the inspirational painting, Lion himself is as apathetic about this as any situation, but the violet beauty at rest before them has engaged his rider's contemplative intrigue...
So, this features two firsts in the realm of "Steven Universe" fanart, for me. One, my first time drawing Lion, and I must say he proved a much easier muse than I thought he would. Two, this is the first time I've drawn an SU fan-picture with a detailed background - though I used my own style instead of trying to mimic that of the crewniverse. I love drawing sky or ceiling-type backgrounds the way I have here; whether for giving an energetic flair to a skyline or giving a blousing feel to the roof of a tent - as in the case of my original piece, "Lady Lovers" - this method gives (for me, the artist, at least) a bit of a stage-like feel to the overall scene depicted.
